I Just Have To Brag...

| | Comments (2)

...about my hard working, strong, shrinking husband.

Granny and Papa came to visit for the weekend. While they were here, we took full advantage of Papa's big truck. Bill and Josh picked up 36 80lb bags of concrete to build a retaining wall with. Bill was so kind to offer help but unfortunately, the weather had other plans. It waited just long enough for Bill to leave before drying up. So...

In "Honor" Of Hannah's Last Day

Yesterday was Hannah's last day at Davis Day Care.

Hannah ~ You remember to take your naps and eat lots. Give your mommy and daddy a few of your squeals, too. We'll miss you!

A Summer Of "Firsts"!

| | Comments (0)

Last night, something compelled me to look at airline ticket prices to CO. I'm sure glad it did. WE'RE GOING TO CO! This trip (and summer) will be filled with many firsts.

This will be Myra and Noah's first trip to CO. This will aslo be Noah's first trip on a plane.

Josh will be visiting Nebraska for the first time. We're going to visit Jeanie and her husband who live just over the border. Mom says it's only about a two hour drive from Denver.

Myra and Noah will be meeting Uncle Bob and Erica for the first time. On top of that, Noah will be meeting "Great Grandma" for the first time ever. (Myra hasn't "seen" Great Grandma since she was 7 months old - Uncle BooBoo's high school graduation).

This will also be the kids' first trip to the mountains. We'll probably go "hiking" for the day. Not sure how that will actually work out with Noah considering he can't walk and we won't be able to take the stroller I don't think. I'm going to have to check with the airline on all the stuff we need for the kids (car seats, "play yard", and maybe stroller).

Other places that have been descussed is the zoo (Noah's first zoo trip and Myra's first visit to the Denver zoo) and the butterfly whatever. The butterflies actually fly around you like in the movies. That will be a first for all of us. Also we're hoping to visit some friends from college while we're there.

So, the big question ... when do we leave? In TWO WEEKS!! I know, that's quick but we couldn't pass up this chance. Who knows when the next chance will be?

The last first ... This is will be our FIRST FULL SUMMER VACATION. We'll be in CO June 10-21. Then in OK from June 24-29 (not exact dates). Noah's first birthday party is on July 2 with his birthday actually being on the 4th. We leave on our first cruise July 21 and we'll be back on the 25th. School starts Aug ?? (not sure of that date) which will be Myra's first day of school and finally Myra's birthday party is on Aug 20.

BIG SUMMER PLANS! YAY! (I hope this doesn't make the summer fly by.)

It's Here! It's Here! It's Finally Here!

I got THE CALL today! The woman said "Ms Davis? I was just calling to let you know that your Mother's Ring is here." I now have one ring representing my beautiful baby girl and another one representing my very handsome baby boy. Both are white gold bands with an 'X' of white gold, an 'O' made from their birthstones (Myra's is Peridot and Noah's is Ruby), and then another white gold 'X'. Then, on one side of the 'XOX' is their name and on the other side is their date of birth.

Millions of Peaches! Peaches for me!

When we first moved into this house, I wasnt' too happy with the previous owners. They had a big garden in a corner of the yard a few years before and their fertile garden soil was growing weed bunches the size of cabbage heads. It still grows weeds in that area far better than it grows grass. One thing that I did love about them, though, is the amazing variety of fruit trees they kept up. We have a pear tree that is around 25 feet tall and drops massive amounts of pears in the fall. As you can see, they're already getting pretty plump.

On the back fence, covered with roses (which I hate thoroughly--they're too pokey), I found some ugly flowers that I later learned were garlic. I seemed to have pulled this year's garlic crop too early, but last year we used some and it was great.

Also in the back by the shed is what I believe to be the WORLD'S BIGGEST FIG BUSH. I was told it a kumquat tree when we first moved in, but after every cable man, phone guy, and electric company tech told me it was a fig bush, I think I'll believe them. Since we found that out, I've been looking for some Newtons on that tree, but all that grows are these ugly looking fruit. We know absolutely nothing about them and truthfully are kind of scared of them, so each year the birds and squirrels have a fig-feast in our backyard.

My favorite plants by far are the peach trees. We have two of them and another that I think is a nectarine (or maybe apricot) tree. One of the peach trees doesn't produce much but the other is a virtual fruit factory! This tree is LOADED with fruit right now so we're trying to pick them each night after work before they all go bad. These things are great! I love picking one off the tree after I mow the lawn. Visit us any time soon and you can pick some too. In fact, we'll probably try to sluff some off on you!

Davis Day Care Goes To Burger's Lake

| | Comments (1)

Ricky called yesterday morning and said that he and a group from school were out at Burger's Lake just down the road. I loaded up the kids and took the 3min journey to visit. This was our first time to this so-called lake. While there, I realized that this "lake" isn't really a lake at all. It's like a man-made natural water park thing? I'm not real sure how to describe it. It has several diving boards and fountains. It also had a trapeze rope so that you could swing out over the water and drop. You'll just have to look at the pictures. Myra and Noah didn't seem to care what they were in as long as it was water. Hannah ... well, as long as she had attention from anyone, she was happy.

A Trip Without A Purpose

| | Comments (1)

Nothing definite was planned this trip. We knew Josh was going to meet with "So-and-So" and we knew the kids were going to get their haircut but we didn't have any definite times. This not knowing would drive most people crazy! It was actually relaxing for me. I wasn't trying to squeeze this in here or doing something maybe there. This weekend was a much-needed "vacation".

What a weekend

We're finally back from a long three day weekend in Oklahoma. I'm sure Chris will update everyone on the happenings soon, but I wanted to squeeze in a sneak peak pic of us boys chillin' at Turner Falls.

Who needs pots and pans when you can just open and slam a door? I'm sure Noah's not the only baby that appreciates the "music" produced by these "instruments" that you can find anywhere and everywhere. And the best part? Well, for parents, it's not the sound; it's the fact that they're free.

Noah enjoys "playing" big doors,...

Happy Mother's Day To Me!

| | Comments (0)

In a way, Mother's Day started Friday for me. Miss Hannah Grace gave me a cute little "Happy Mother's Day, Aunt" card with a gift card for a delux pedicure (Ahhhh). I thought that Myra had picked out the same card for Anna but then I remembered "That's just like Aunt DooDoo and Daddy!" I'll let her tell you about that.

Today was also a good day. Josh let me sleep in this morning while he got up with the babies. After sleeping until 8:30, Josh made me a bacon and egg breakfast. No, I didn't have the whole day off. We had to do the grocery shopping, and the laundry, and the cleaning ... all our scheduled Sunday chores but Myra and Josh were sweet enough to do one extra chore just for me.

Getting An "Early" Start

| | Comments (2)

Yes, I've already begun to prepare for Noah's birthday. Josh thinks I'm crazy for starting so early but if you would have seen the woman at WalMart the other night buying up all the red, white, and blue party supplies ... I'm "on top of things", not "crazy".

Big Star, Baby!

I ran across this sweet little program on the web called Rasterbater. I know, it's a stupid name, but I didn't name it. I wrote a little blurb about it over on the Jiffy Stop. Check it out for some of the specifics. As you can see, it makes any image enormous and allows you to print it out on plain old printers. You can do them in color, too, but I didn't want to go through 2 or 3 cartridges just for one poster.

The model and her work.

As you can see, the program rasterizes the image and prints it out in dot form. It can be saved as a .pdf file and could be sent anywhere to be printed.

---Update---
I made another one of these things and it was even bigger. It turned out great. Check it out over on the beer blog.

Birthday Countdowns Begin

| | Comments (1)

Today, Noah is 10 months old. That means I only have 2 months to plan the big FIRST BIRTHDAY BASH! I'm looking foward to it and hoping that it will be a huge success like Myra's first birthday party. We've decided to do the traditional 4th of July cookout on the 2nd. (The 4th falls on a Monday and I know we'll have people who have to travel a ways attending.) Josh will be doing his awesome ribs and we'll have hambugers and hot dogs for the little ones or for those who don't like ribs. The only catch is everyone MUST be "sporting" red, white, and blue to get into the party.

Finally Home

| | Comments (1)

We're finally back from our trip to Oklahoma for Big Granny's funeral. It was a nice service and it was great to see all of the family again. We took off for Woodward on Friday morning in balmy 75 degree weather. By the time we made it all the way out to western Oklahoma, the temperature had dropped all the way down to 45! We were so cold, we had to hit Wal-Mart for some warmer clothes. So did every other Texan family member.
