School Supply Time...Already?

This summer has flown by at times and drug by others. Right now I'm leaning toward the flying part. That realization hit me today when Chris came home from WalMart with a big haul of school stuff. Our kids finally got the paperwork approving their in-district transfers. Along with that came a big fat list of essential supplies that we had to buy. It feels like there is more stuff on it every year! Noah was so excited to get a Transformers backpack and Myra was busy dividing up all the stuff like erasers, kleenex, and pencils. I also got a phone call asking me to teach a computer class at our AVID summer program which means I'm going to be going back to work a little earlier than I wanted. Oh well, I really enjoy hanging out with the AVID kids so it won't be that bad. So long summer.

It's your birthday so I thought I'd take a moment to share with you (and the world, I guess) exactly how I feel about you. You have given my life so many wonderful things, I don't know how to thank you enough. Your love and understanding has been an amazing bonus during the good times and an essential crutch during the bad. You give so much time, energy, and attention to Myra, Noah, and me that there is rarely anything left over for yourself. What do you ask for in return? Nothing but a hug and a kiss (or a nosey if you are Noah). Thank you for all that you do and here's to another 29th birthday! :)

If you happened to pick up a Stillwater News Press back on December 14th, 1981, then you are in luck. Inside of that hard-hitting issue was an article featuring none other than Christy Iorns! She won't let me call her Christy, but back then, it didn't seem to bother her much. You can read the article below:

I hate tattoos. I'll never have one. EVER! There isn't a lot of things that I know I'll want drawn on my body 40 years from now, but I do know that if I ever find one, I won't want it drawn on by some scary guy in Deep Ellum with a sharp instrument in one hand and a Miller High Life in the other. While unpacking, Chris came across this temporary tattoo in the bottom of a box. It was my main man Homestar Runner, so of course, he had to be put on! Here it is. My very first tattoo, fake or real (yes, I'm that opposed to tattoos).

2009 Balk Reunion

What a weekend! This year's Balk Reunion was out in Quitman, TX at Marty and Maddie's house. There was a lot of swimming, fishing, eating, fireworks, and visiting to be had by all. Marty smoked all kinds of meat, Maddie cooked all kinds of goodies, and everybody brought their kids. There was a killer fishing trip where the Balk family invaded Lake Tawakoni and did our best to lower their striper and catfish populations. Afterwards, we feasted on fried catfish. It was a big success and a lot of fun. Check out the pictures we took over on Flickr.

This morning, on our walk to the park, it was already getting hot. Myra says to us, "It's hotter than Steamed Bacon out here!" To be honest, that pretty much summed it up.

That's right! TheDavisBlog is again ALIVE! A lot has happened since the last post here at DFB. We went to Oklahoma, I went to Scout Camp, I got bit by a snake, we moved to a new house, and I went crazy...almost (no Internet for almost 2 weeks was tough). So much to say so I'm just going to abbreviate:

- I went to Boy Scout Camp with Stroud's troop up in Cleveland, OK. I was joined by Ricky, Dad, Nate, Skylor, and Brandon. It was a Davis family invasion! It was really hot but a lot of fun.

- While at camp, I got bit by a copperhead on my surgically repaired right foot. Only one fang broke the skin (hooray sandals!) but it pumped enough venom to turn to my foot black and blue and swell it up quite a bit. I'm still feeling some residual pain from it today. Nowhere near as bad as Granny's rattlesnake bite.

- We moved across town. Now we live across the pond from the Godes. Myra loves this new house so much. She tells me at least twice a day that she can't believe she lives here. Noah loves pretending to be Mario and Luigi as he runs up and down the stairs.

- We're gearing up for Noah's big birthday cookout. We're holding it tonight to avoid the 4th. In fact, I'm about to go put on my world famous birthday shirt. Of course there's brats and dogs on the menu, because that's just how things go down around here! Noah has been telling people that he's 5 for months now, so it's a BIG day for him.

- Next weekend is the Big Balk Reunion out in Quitman, TX. There is going to be some AWESOME striper fishing on the agenda plus a lot of kicking back and relaxing with the fam.

- I'm making it my purpose in life to get some more updates on this blog and some pics to boot. Keep your eye on us, will ya?

Down on the Farm

That's right. We have a farm. Just outside our front door is a vast 2 pot vegetable garden. We have killed a few plants there in our day but right now, things really seem to be growing. In fact, we have 5 bell peppers in the works and one of them is bigger than a golf ball. We also have about 5 tomatoes on the vine and one is FINALLY turning red. When we're ready to pick them, we'll head up to Angie's house and help her make that salsa. Here is a couple of pics of our crop:

Noah does! We attended his first program on Thursday night and although he could do without the singing (he just did the motions), Noah really enjoyed the dancing! They ended the night with a cute around the world dance that I just HAD to set to music. Enjoy!

The Grocery List....OF THE FUTURE!!

OK, I understand that I'm a dork for posting this, but I had to share this cool new thing we started using. A couple of weeks ago, Chris had the idea of putting our grocery list online so that I could add items to it as I thought of them while at work and she could do the same from home. We started out using Cozi.com and it was ok, but not quite flexible enough. One cool feature (that ended up being not so cool) was the ability to send your grocery list as a text message. Turns out, it took 4 messages to send our whole list and it was a nightmare to use at the store. So I dug around in Google Docs and found the cool feature that lets you create super easy forms to enter data into your spreadsheets. What does this all mean? Well, now Chris or I (or anyone with the super-long URL to the page) can go to a web page that has a really simple form with a submit button.

Anything you type in goes into our list like this:

From here we can print it, email it, or publish it to the web. Yes, we are dorks, but we're dorks with a cool grocery list!

For the past couple of days, this song has kept running through my head over and over and over again ... for good reasons ...

Maybe it's because Noah has been home all week. Because of his surgery (and the fact that it's hard enough getting two kids out of the house), we've pretty much been stuck at home.

Three weeks and one day left of this school year ... if you don't count today. *Breathe in ... breathe out ... in ... out ... *
