Another Great Year For Our "Baby Girl"

| | Comments (1)
Monday morning, I was lucky enough to be able to attend Myra's awards ceremony. (Thank you, Anna and Tara!)  It was a very quick seeing as how they were trying to get 130 first graders across the stage in less than hour.  One at a time the teachers presented each student with a folder containing their awards.  They would only mention two of those awards to save time ... and keep it fair. After watching most of the first graders cross the stage, it was finally Myra's turn.

"Myra Davis: 'A' Honor Roll, Attendance."

Besides her 'A' Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance, she also received a Citizenship Certificate.  Our award winning daughter has done it again.

Jump forward to Tuesday evening ... In the mail, a letter stating that Myra has made it into the PACE program!  ("The goal of the PACE program is to identify those children who have intellectual abilities and academic skills considerably above what is expected for their age level.")  Myra begins her PACE program (and 2nd Grade) journey next fall.

Myra's worked hard this year and it shows.  We're so very proud of our "baby girl".

(I do have pictures and will post them soon.  I just couldn't wait to share this exciting news.)

Love Letters

I don't remember starting to write love letters until ... well, I know it wasn't FIRST GRADE! Last night while packing up Myra's backpack so it would be ready for school this morning, I found the following letter ...

"To Tilr ... From Myra
Do you wat to bee my boy fend?"

I decided not to mention it. She had been slightly embarrassed by the letter she had received Friday from one Mr Cameron. "Do you wat to by grl fred?" She said she sent a note back to him with "a big GIANT N-O on it".

Tonight while cleaning the living room ..

"To Cameron .... From Myra
817-###-#### ... Do you like me"

"To Cameron ... From Myra
Do you wat to cam to my house"

"To Cameron ... From Myra
I [heart] you ... We are going to the zoo"

Yes. THREE letters to Cameron. Each with it's own romantic picture of people having fun. Apparently, they plan on playing ball together and holding hands at the zoo.

*sigh* What happened to not being able to stop thinking about Mr Blue Shirt Barney Boy? That one didn't hit so close to home. Is our baby girl really growing up that fast?

And The Award Goes To ...

Last night was the BIG Kindergarten Graduation! The kids, of course, received their Kindergarten Diplomas one by one taking breaks every couple of classes to sing some fun songs.

Noah's Teacher?

The other day, pulling into the school parking lot to pick up Myra ....

NOAH: "Look, Mommy! It's Myra's school!" .... (then whining) "Mommy, I want to see Ms Maddox."
MOMMY: "Oh? You want to see Myra's teacher?"
NOAH: (angry) "NO! Noah's teacher!"

I hope Ms Maddox doesn't plan on moving anytime soon.

Yesterday was Myra's first "awards assembly" at Chisholm Ridge. It was just a small ceremony, taking place in her small classroom. We are proud non the less. Our little start received FIVE awards total!

(1) Perfect Attendance Certificate for the first six weeks
(2) Perfect Attendance Certificate for the second six weeks
(3) Perfect Attendance Certificate for the third six weeks
(4) Excellence in Citizenship Certificate for the first half of the year
and
(5) Excellent Student Pencil for just being Myra.

That's our girl!

Myra's First Six Weeks

| | Comments (3)

Myra brought home her first Kindergarten Report Card last night! We were all very excited. In it, it shows that she knows and is doing everything that is expected of her. She received an 'E' (Excellent) or 'X' (Developed) on everything! In teachers comments ...

"Myra is an awesome student! She is very smart and very well behaved! You have done an excellent job with her!"
(I guess that means we received an 'E' for the first six weeks too.)

Myra,
We couldn't be any prouder of our "baby girl"! Keep up the GREAT work!
Love,
Mommy and Daddy

School Days Are Finally Back!

| | Comments (1)

It's been one very long summer with Myra being home all day and "bored" all the time. I tried to do my best at keeping her busy. I gave her "homework" and we played games. We did plenty of swimming and a bit of traveling. It wore me out but I guess it just wasn't enough for her. Well, today that's all changed.

Today was Myra's first day of "Kinder-y-garten". Since she's attending Chisholm Ridge with Aunt DooDoo ... I mean, Anna (we're using her "school name" now), we were able to drive her to school and pick up Hannah at the same time. Let me tell you, it was a mad house! Kids and parents EVERYWHERE. We even lost Noah for a minute (he followed the mass into the cafateria where he found a microwave door to open and close). After tracking down the little man, we made our way to the table where Myra was to gather with her class and meet her teacher.

I was a tad bit sad that we couldn't stay to actually see Myra off to her room but Daddy had to prepare for his first day also. We were, however, able to stay long enough to meet Mrs Maddox (the teacher "with the soooo cute room") and let her know the plan for after school.

Fast forward to after school ... I loaded the babies into the car and drove over to Josh's school to drop off Hannah and pick up Josh. After waiting and chatting with Uncle Ricky and a couple other teachers, we were off to find Ms Becca's house. FYI: Ms Becca is one of Myra's teachers from last year who's daughter is in Myra's class this year. She was kind enough to offer to watch Myra for us until we are able to get over to that side of town. Following the directions that Ms Becca gave us was easy. The only way they could have been any easier is if they led us to the right house. Yes, we went to the wrong house but that was quickly corrected. We got our "baby girl" and took her to Sonic to hear all about her day.

Myra wasn't real clear about what she did but from the bits and pieces we got out of her, it sounded GREAT! They went over the rules, had recess and lunch and they even did some handprints. Myra's hands were still red from that last activity. I asked her if she wanted to stay home with me tomorrow and she respnded by saying "Mommy, the is OPEN tomorrow." I said "I know, but I thought you might want to stay home with me and the babies." to which Myra replied "No, Mommy, I want to go have fun." I guess I better enjoy her liking school while I can.

Here's Myra with her new teacher, Ms Maddox, on their first day of school. (Again, there are more pictures to come as soon as the photo gallery is up and running.)

Myra's Heartache?

| | Comments (0)

Josh had to work late today so I had to go pick Myra up from school (Aunt DooDoo met us there to get Hannah). On the way out of the parking lot, Myra told me her sad story.

MYRA: Chandler never gives me a hug.
MOMMY: A lot of boys don't like hugging girls at your age. Maybe Chandler just doesn't like to hug girls.
MYRA: He always hugs Avery and he NEVER hugs me.

She sounded like she was about to break down and cry. Is she really that .... in love? She's only four!! Should I be worried about her teenage years?

It's Official!

We don't know who her teacher is yet but as of 5pm this afternoon,

Myra Lynnette is enrolled in Kindergarten!

She will be attending Chisholm Ridge Elementary (where Aunt DooDoo teaches) for the 2006-2007 school year. She was so excited to be there at "Kindergarten Round-Up". Mommy and Daddy filled out all the required paperwork while Myra talked with several of the Kindergarten teachers. Afterwards, we waited (Myra was a bit impatient) to take the hearing and eye tests. When we were finished with those, the school nurse said "Congratulations! You've past your first Kindergarten test." Myra got one of the biggest smiles I've ever seen. She then ran over to me and gave me a great big hug saying "Mommy, did you hear that? I'm ready for Kindergarten!" I have a feeling it's going to be a long summer for our little Wrangler.

A Classy Picture

I'm so excited! Myra's first class picture is finally here. Tonight, Myra and I sat down to write all the names of her classmates so that when she looks back at this umpteen years from now ... well, she may not really remember them all but at least she'll have their names. I'm glad she's having fun with them and I hope she's not too dissapointed when she starts school next year and realizes that most of her classmates now aren't there. Who knows? She might meet up with them again in high school.

Notice the boy (third child from the left in the middle row) with the brightly colored striped shirt. Myra told me as we were listing the names "That's Chandler. I like Chandler! I'm going to marry him when we grow up." Sorry Angel but a girl has the right to change her mind.
